Prestin_xj
Hey guys! My first post here. I have a 88’ Comanche 4.0, manual, 2wd. I’m about to attempt the ax15 swap. I have an external slave ax15 4x4 trans out of a 96 XJ. What is EVERYTHING I need to do this swap? I’ve heard about some CJ v8 pilot bushing, but not sure which one I need. I have a new clutch to go in the trans and I will probably get the flywheel resurfaced because why not. Is there anything else I need to do this swap? I’d just like to order everything I need now that way I don’t tear it apart and figure out there’s something else I need then have to wait on that part to come in the mail. Thanks in advance! MiNi Beast
New clutch setup, throwout bearing, seals are good to handle as well as rear main seal while at it, your 96 trans i wanna say has a bigger tip input shaft so will need to run a bushing as your 88 crank on the 4.0 will be big enough. Keep the tcase with the 96 if can. Also need an crossmember for Ax-15 as well, unless you want to fab 😉 They are some good write ups to be found on this same swap. Write out a list and check as you go. Welcome to the club.
Pete M
what parts came with your new transmission?
87MJTIM
I am assuming you are getting all the 4x4 parts from the 96. Just to start a partial list: The crossmember from the 96. Your old BA10 x-member doesn't fit. The tcase shift linkage from the old. You should keep your original flywheel. The pilot bushing is for a 74 CJ5 w/ a 304. Search RockAuto for the part number. rylee144
You'll need the mount that attaches to the transmission. The one that also has the exhaust mount on it.
