jeepmjga
Hey all, now that I've got the ball joints fixed the trans starting leaking from the bellhousing. Its definitely NOT the clutch, pedal feels good and shifts into all gears smooth. The fluid is def trans fluid (used motor oil after doing some research) and is leaking out of the front of the bellhousing. I can't tell if its leaking while driving but I assume it is. When I park it, it leaks for a few minutes and then stops, so not continuous while sitting. The noise is kind of a low grinding while driving, I assume coming from the transmission. The noise is constant while I'm moving and does not change whether I'm on or off the throttle, but obviously its faster at higher rpm's. All new wheel bearings all around and new u joints everywhere. Clutch is also brand new LUK, new master and slave cylinder as well, clutch fluid in the master is staying at constant level. Any trans gurus got any ideas? I am no transmission pro but I just can't think of where it would be leaking from in the bellhousing other than maybe a bad input shaft and seal? jdog
Does the noise go away when you press the clutch?

Nope its constant while moving whether the clutch is engaged or not, and it still shifts smooth and trans pulls good. I'm puzzled as to what it could be. MiNi Beast
Rear main seal possibly. Smell the difference between used motor oil and gear lube/trans fluid.
jdog
Just a guess, but I'd say your front bearing is on its way out

Rear main is new also, I replaced when I did the clutch, forgot to mention that. 6 hours ago, jdog said: Just a guess, but I'd say your front bearing is on its way out Dang I figured as much. Worth it to replace or prob best to just start looking for an ax15 I'm guessing?
silvertwinkiehobo
Find an AX-15 if you can, but otherwise, pull the BA and verify the condition of the bearings manually.

Just thinking about what I would be getting into there. How hard is it to replace the front bearing? I assume you need to remove bellhousing and split the case to get to it? silvertwinkiehobo
Pretty much requires disassembly, but don't forget, you have four bearings (Input, output and two ends of the countershaft). You need to remove the trans just to verify which one is bad (placing the trans in N disengages the countershaft from the input or output shaft, depending on design). omega_rugal
are you sure is not engine oil? transmision oil would not be burn, it could have degraded and look discolored or brown or even whitish but it will definitly look diferent than used engine oil,as for the grinding, dirty oil in the trans would make such noise but if you want to solve the problem get an AX15 and put that BA10/5 where it belongs... the recycle bin
