thousender
I just picked up a base Comanche (my first) and it did not come with the stereo. I don't know if my Comanche even has speakers! Where should I look? I'm also curious to know what people are putting in they're Comanches stereo system wise. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated! ghetdjc320
Welcome aboard! The Comanche has 4 speaker locations. The 2 front speakers are in the door and are 5.25” speakers. The other two are 4x6 and are in the b pillar corner behind the rear seat near the floor. Many here like to keep everything stock or at least keep the stock locations with updated features. @Minuit is our resident radio guru and sells factory radios that have been completely refurbished and upgraded with really nice modern features. It’s the best of both worlds. Personally, I didn’t keep the stock head unit or even the location though I do appreciate a factory appearance. I retrofit a double din Sony car play unit with backup cam into my dash. It requires a lot of plastic work so if your not comfortable with plastic cutting and welding tools I wouldn’t recommend it. Then of course there are countless custom options and systems that have been built.
Pete M
do you have a blockoff plate where the radio should be? do you have an antenna? do you have grilles in the doors behind which a speaker could be hiding?
thousender
There are no speakers in the doors and when I pulled up the vinyl floor cover I had to take off the b pillar and there were no speakers hiding away. Is they're anywhere else you can think of. Is it a possibility comanche has no speakers? Thanks for the referral, I'll definitely take a look. Some of the dash, b pillar and door panels would be good
scaleless
Looks like you have no sound system! Like Pete said, if your truck came with no radio from the factory, it should have a radio delete plate on the dash.
thousender
Just checked the dash. At first glance, it looks like the radio is just missing. But with a closer look, you can see that the dash has been cut and someone has put a cover overtop. They did a pretty sloppy job so I'll have to take a dremel it and make all the edges even. Mabey I can just use a file, I don't know how brittle the plastic is...
thousender
The doors have no speakers and you can see the b pillar in this picture and it only has the air vent.
Pete M
the black dash trim is common enough that you can just buy an intact one if you choose. I won't lie, a part of me wants to save those door panels.
thousender
They likely will be saved as I'm planning on swapping the interior out of a wagoneer. But it depends if I find someone that's willing to part one out...

Minuit
Those door panels (if original) confirm that the truck was originally a "radio delete" 100% of the time. Rear speakers were optional and were usually accompanied by an (expensive) cassette deck. There were never factory dash speakers on the Comanche, but the grilles on either side of the lower dash are the locations where tweeters would be mounted on a Cherokee, if it had the optional Jensen sound system from the factory. If you want rear speakers, the brackets show up from time to time and they accept 4x6 speakers as has been said.
zomeizter
Somehow I was able to mount some punchy 6x9s at the pillars without cutting, I think I removed the 4x6 brackets, just an option once you get your headset in the dash...
