This will probably be a difficult topic to figure out, maybe not...

But I'm LS swapping my MJ. For right now, I don't want to swap out the d35...

I'll have to have a driveshaft made for it.

I'll eventually swap in an 8.8, or something narrower??

But my question is; if I have a driveshaft made and find a combo joint for it to d35, will the driveshaft length change when I swap to the 8.8 (and switch combo joint)

How much longer is the snout/flange than a d35? and what does everyone do with the flange? Buy the adapter or buy a yoke replacement for it?

I ran a stock driveshaft with my 8.8 and no lift. I’m still running a stock driveshaft and a 3” lift. FWIW

I have 8.8 on both of my XJ. Yes, the Purple one, PJJ. I used the flange so I do not have to buy a special U-Joint. I did a H-n-T on PJJ. I think when I had the 8.25 in it.

There are Ford out there that have a flange adapter with the right joint. The Aerostar comes to mind.

Yup, one like Krusty's shared image.

No DS mods required on mine after the 8.8 went in, I did need a combo u-joint though.

Mine was on an XJ at 4.5, actually  about 6" in the beginning. . The MJ has a longer drive shaft. So, it would depend on the amount of lift.
