Odinson0910
So I've been tinkering with the idea of building my 86 into a drift truck. I just wanna know what powerplant would be the best candidate as far as ease of installation and making power. Any input would be great.
BeatCJ
FWIW, you don't give us much to work with. What do you have, what are your desires? What is your stock engine? Building up the stock 4.0 is probably the easiest and cheapest way to make power. Depends on how much work you want to do and how much power you want, and what you are starting from. A GM based swap is probably the easiest way to make bigger power, but it does take some knowhow and effort. There a several good build threads here on the board, thecodemonks Rocky, limeyjeeper, 70barracuda's Driving on the street to Street Truck pop to the front of my brain. Look in the Epic Builds section. Probably a dozen of them, if you look a little.
Pete M
yup, check out the builds in the Epic Tech subforum. lots of choices in engine any LS will make all the power you desire.
Dzimm
I'll echo the above and would emphasize an LS swap for drifting. That extra power to get the wheels broke loose won't hurt!
mnkyboy
I would look through a rule book and see what class you want to shoot for, an LS would be cool but might put you in a class that you have no business being in. I would think that for getting started you could probably make what you have work ok, my little 2.5l would disintegrate a set of smaller tires in a big hurry. watchamakalit
You will probably be money and time ahead to just regear and swap to smaller tires. A stock comache will fry tires pretty easy even with a 2.5. I think an ls would be overkill but to each his own.
Pete M
engine choices aside, I'd upgrade the rear axle for sure.
