Chriscross
what gear ratio did the 1987 2 wheel drive with the 5 speed Peugeot transmission have..i have 3 xj donars and one of them is a 91 Briarwood (3.55?)
89 MJ
Most likely, 3.07s. Manual MJs and XJs usually has 3.07s and autos had 3.55. If you want 3.55s, swap the XJ rear axle into the MJ. All you would need to change the rear axle is weld on different spring perches. Oh, these questions would go in the Mods and Repairs section. I’m sure @Pete M will move it for you. Liketosmash
My 1987 2WD Peugeot Manual MJ had a 3.55 rear. The 1988 Manual Cherokee I used to turn the MJ into 4WD was 3.07 so I ended up re-gearing the front after the front axle swap from the Cherokee. gogmorgo
Unless otherwise specified, a manual trans would’ve had 3.07 gears... from the factory. 33 years later, it may no longer be original. If you’re going to the trouble of changing axles, unless you can find one that bolts in, get a better axle than a d35.
Smokeyyank
Yeah agree with gogmorgo. Look for 98-99 axles. Rest are a waste to swap IMHO.
