I got pulled over once in my Sable for tint. The cop supposedly saw my windshield strip was 1/4" below the AS1 line from across the 4 lane divided highway and wanted to search my car.

Waldo, FL is the reason. The PD was so wild with traffic stops that the whole department was actually disbanded. Half of the city's revenue came from tickets. They actually passed a bill in the Senate and AAA put up speed trap warning billboards, this town was so bad and https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.news4jax.com/news/2014/10/01/city-council-disbands-waldo-police-department/%3foutputType=amp

Would it be near a military installation?

Seems like all my stateside assignments had at least one town nearby that seemed to make its living off of giving G.I.'s speeding tickets or the like.

we can't have ANYTHING covering our tags here.  I can understand those really dark tinted ones where you can't see the tag numbers, but mine were CLEAR.

There is another version out there that is clear when looking from behind, but the plastic obscures it if looking from an angle.  so any cop right bhind you can see it, but anything from the side of the road cannot (i.e. the auto-cameras that all cop cars have these days).

tinting shows as standard in the '91 dealership brochure I've got next to my desk.

Thanks for the info. I have an '88 and I'm planning on doing a light tint of either 25 or 30% attenuation because NY state and NY state 70% light transmittance. My glass looks almost entirely clear in comparison to my folks '12 grand cherokee!

On both my TJ and WRX I went with 5% ceramic tint. They have a clear ceramic film here they recommended and installed in the TJ. Seems to work very well as it cuts down the heat quite a bit but I can notice the slightest color variations through it when wearing polarized sun glasses.
