eaglescout526
Has anyone installed the new redesigned door hinges before? I have two new sets from Chrysler and they are way different but function and look like what would be used on the 97-01 XJs But Chrysler says they are direct replacements for the old ones. Just the side that mounts to the body is more open than the old solid one.
ghetdjc320
Following. I haven’t tried the new style. Could you post up some pictures of what you have and the part number. I used some nos hinges for my drivers door along with the reinforcement plates from hooligans off-road. Now my passenger side needs to be done. eaglescout526
I will now post pictures. I planned on doing so a little bit later but I have time now. Hinge and instructions. Note it’s open design.
ghetdjc320
Interesting design. So is it supposed to weld in place like the old one?
eaglescout526
That’s what I think but I’m baffled as Chrysler’s instructions are incredibly vague.
Jeep Driver
If you need instructions, you are likely not the one who should be replacing the hinges.
eaglescout526
You're right Jeep Driver, I shouldn't be doing such. But like everyone else I'm cheap but willing to learn and not let anyone I don't trust touch my truck. But if you see, the new hinge is much more open in design than the old solid ones. eaglescout526
Just now, Strokermjcomanche said: Yep , just look at a 97 + XJ for reference. I will have to do that.
Strokermjcomanche
I'd have to look , but if you wanted to stay with the older style I may have some new ones . If only one hinge is bad you would only have to change one . May be be a good time to install one of those reinforcing plates too if your hinges were pulling away from the body . eaglescout526
It looks like that only the top of the hinge meaning the weld and all is separating from the body.
Strokermjcomanche
I'd put the reinforcement plate in and leave the rest . Once the plate is in with the hinges welded to it i don't see it going anywhere.
Strokermjcomanche
Here's a 97 + hinge setup though
eaglescout526
I will have to go look at the write up again and see what all I need to do to add the plate. That doesn't look bad. Looks pretty straight forward and just weld it in place of the old hinge.
ghetdjc320
Looks simple enough. Thanks!
