Manche757
No. Door stuck when closing. Snaps or pops to free it. Typical old car thing
mark corbitt
My passenger door was "popping" and I noticed the "pin" in the part that holds the door open had been replaced with a bolt. When I replaced the bolt with the proper pin, it fixed it.
mjeff87
Yeah, the actual OEM part is a split roll pin with a bunch of funky profiles. If yours is worn, or replaced with anything else it could be causing the pop.
AZJeff
The door checks themselves will wear out on XJ/MJ vehicles and start making poppin noises. The fix is a new door check, and probably a new bracket where the check arm attaches to the “A” pillar. New door checks can be had from several sources. It’s a Dorman 924-148 for the check. It’s on Amazon. several makers offer the bracket and pin on Amazon as well

ghetdjc320
I got new oem hinges and check stops from team Cherokee and installed them along with some hinge reinforcements from hoolihans off-road. Problem solved, no more popping. My popping was coming from the door dropping when opened. Had to reinforce my striker too with a large fender washer. It turned out very good though.
