I am so glad I found a place to document my latest build; an 1990 2 door jeep Cherokee.

The back story - at the time I purchased this XJ, I already had 2 CJ's and 3 Comanche's. I definitely did not need another jeep. So the ball was definitely in my court for negotiating a price. The owner said he would sell it to the scrap yard for $300 if he did not get the $400 he was asking for it?? I put $300 in my pocket and headed over.

This is my first look at the jeep ->

I was only told that it was a white Cherokee, not a decked out 4wd two door Limited. The jeep has 220k miles on the 4.0 motor, the AW4 automatic transmission and the NP242 transfercase.

The bad - the jeep needed a new windshield, the lower plastic trim was sheet wall screwed on, the tint was so bad you could not see out of most of it, behind the drivers side door was a dent in the lower quarter panel, and the rear axle was screaming. I already had a rear D44 out of an 1987 XJ ready to go in, so good news there ->

After driving it around the block with the owner, he came down to $300. I left there getting it for $270.

After getting it back and washed up ->

I have been working on replacing the headliner etc in the Cherokee. I think it came out pretty good since I’ve only done it on th MJ. I still have to do the sun visors, so I will post those when I am done.

I went to Joann’s Fabric and picked up enough grey material for the job. Hint - sign up online and get 50% off! I started with the overhead console. Cleaned it up and sprayed it with 3M Super 77 adhesive. Before->

Then I moved on to the overhead speaker thing. Ignore the mess, I just emptied our storage unit. Before->

My old headliner was redone in black for some unknown reason and it was wrecked up front from the water leak. Old headliner->

i picked up another 2 door headliner from an 1994 base model. It did not have the cut-outs the original had so I laid the old one on top to use it as a template. Spent a lot of time getting the fabric and glue off the new headliner. I took my time and a lot of adhesive spray to get the new material on. Before->

We will see how it holds up

That looks good. Just wondering how much $ you had in material. I need to redo my MJ and XJ.

I got a lot more than I needed. I think I have about 45 in material and 4 cans of the spray adhesive. I can’t find the receipts for everything but I will look and update the thread. I am not sure if you have everything that I had to do but you should be able to do it a lot cheaper than me.

That's close enough for me. I need to do everything you did except the console my XJ doesn't have one. Thank you

My fiancé got me some Jeep decals to put on the XJ . They are dad and son Jeeps. Only thing that could be better is if they were the MJ/XJ front ends. 27269DA6-037B-45F8-8712-1A7F5BC6D440.jpeg.c5700ec3923d60e7345ff52f479d1331.jpeg

I want to put a Comanche Club banner on back too, but not sure if it good idea because it’s not an MJ? Then I do have CJ’s decals on there :D. Thoughts - TBC

I just got in my XJ/MJ Ultimate +\- power cable kit from K Suspension  Fab. It is made out of 2 gauge welding wire. It cost me $105 but it looks really good. I can’t wait to get it installed! Pics->

I have a couple CC things on my Libby. :L:   heck, I had one on my old minivan :D  if parents can brag about their kids doing good in school that one month, I figure I can brag about the best MJ site for like 20 years running. :comanche:

I don't stock the outside-application ones, but I'm heading back up to michigan in a week or so and can get you one cut to your specs. :L:

That is fantastic Pete. I will wait for you to get back in town in a few weeks.

Getting my exhaust put on!

New converter, muffler and tailpipe. It’s all welded exhaust. I am not sure if I am going to need anything from the converter forward yet. Going to the beach with the family so I don’t have to wait. Pic ->

Ok, it’s a mixed bag over the new exhaust. I can now feel the transmission shift. It definitely has more power but I still do not have any power when I punch it. I am going to follow cruisers page and test the tps and do the rest of his tips. It is a lot quieter to the point of I can now hear how bad the header leak/cracks are.
