Everything is the same as my old 86 Comanche block, the 90 Cherokee 2.5 oil filter threads are to small and the oil filter is too big

too small to fit on but both will fit on the 1986 2.5

so you've replaced the block from the junkyard and they are saying it's from a 90 XJ, yes?  I guess it's possible that the previous owner of that XJ replaced the block at some point.  what are the casting numbers in the block?  can you simply remove the threaded bit and replace with your old part?

Yes. Older oil filters are 20mm thread and 91 and later are 3/4" threads.

^^^ What is this photo supposed to be showing? Did you swap the threaded adapter from the old engine?

Yes I swapped it I just didn’t know about the orange pieces
