mfendley Posted October 29, 2018 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Thanks to all of the help received from the forum, we have my son's Comanche running great. How I'm turning to the AC to get that working. Since all of the parts are so dated, my intent to to replace everything (since swapping the condenser and dryer did not fix the leak issue). I can only find the suction and discharge lines listed. I don't know what to call the third line - but I don't see it listed anywhere. Does anyone have a diagram and/or part numbers for the AC lines? Also, these replacement lines (as well as the original lines) do not have the high side and low side ports; these are located on an adapter block that screws on to the two ports of the compressor. What is this part called? Anywhere to buy these - or is there a kit to rebuild the valves in this block? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mfendley Posted October 30, 2018 Author Share Posted October 30, 2018 Thanks HOrdbrod. Oddly enough, the diagram that most closely resembles the Comanche install is the Wrangler with 6 cyl. The Comanche w/ 6 cyl (24-1700) has the compressor on the driver's side, where ours is on the passenger side. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

schardein Posted October 30, 2018 Share Posted October 30, 2018 When I fixed the AC on my Comanche, I used everything from a 1996 model XJ. Most parts were new, but did use some hoses from the junkyard. Hoses are routed differently in that year, which I prefer. Only thing I didn't replace was the evaporator in the dash, which received a good flushing. Used 134 refrigerant. I do remember I had an issue with the dryer, it was slightly different than the original and I had to get a fitting or something from the junkyard. I did my 91 XJ at the same time, and same way. One of the compressor bolts seized in the aluminum mounting bracket, and broke off. I ended up sourcing another bracket from the junkyard rather than try to drill it out. Not sure where you are located but that was best for me in California since freon is non-existent. Straight forward exchange of parts and the only modification was the electrical connector plug on the drier. Colors on the wiring were the same however. You sparked my memory on that wiring plug swap! That was the difference between the old and new dryer. Had to get the right plug from the junkyard.
