1987 Base Ignition Switch

Recommended Posts

I have a 1987 MJ Metric Ton 4wd. Bought it new. Having problem with ignition switch. Air conditioner, turn signals and radio will not work when truck is running. Engine on. With key in accessory position and engine off all the above works. Sometimes they will work in key off position. Thinking I need to replace switch. Have done it before.  Just hard getting switch and actuator rod in right position.

Any suggestions or words from experiance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Railroad Sam

I'm actually about to do this. How hard is it to remove the linkage/rod from the switch? I know I'm going to drop the column down to get more room but not sure how the switch comes off exactly. Had a heck of a time trying to find a video that really explains it. Also Pete, I do believe that whoever replaced your switch might have gotten the wrong one. There are two, one with tilt and one without tilt column. The difference between the two is they are opposites so the wrong one will Mount backwards.

Nevermind I figured it out super easy lol getting it adjusted was the tricky part but definitely easier with the column dropped.
