Kyleinreallife
That. Although currently it looks like it's dead weight. The one forward of the egr solenoid is the fan relay...87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44

I don't have a stock XJ/MJ to compare to, but that relay in front of the EGR solenoid is not factory. There should only be one relay on that side of the chassis, and it is to run the AUX fan. I can't be certain, but I believe it belongs behind the EGR solenoid, where that relay that doesn't appear to be hooked up is. My guess is the AUX fan never came on, which is common, so somebody bodged that relay in to fix it.

The relay nearest the front is for the aux fan he put in. It’s on a rocker switch. The relay nearest the fire wall is what I’m wondering....The wires go into the harness and I haven’t opened it up to find out. I’m starting to think my whole manifold was swapped at some point. I’ll post a pic of my engine bay in a few. As I started replacing parts the more I found that wasn’t stock.Egr was off a Le Mans Map was a GM O2 sensor didn’t look like any of the replacement options at oreilyCAT was gutted 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44

The other relay is for the AUX fan, all the harnesses had it, or at least the holder and most of the wiring. Or at least every harness I've ever looked at, or pulled apart, had it. Or at least every harness I've ever looked at, or pulled apart, had it. I’m not really concerned with it rn, I’m trying to fix the running issue. The aux fan works on the switch.Today I got rid of as much as I could of the vacuum system. I deleted the vac caninster, charcoal canister and cruise control. I have vacuum direct from the manifold to: egr solenoid, fuel tank fumes, fuel pressure regulator and heater control. Can I block of the egr? Or remove completely? I’m not concerned with passing smog, I can “pay to pass”. I want to remove as much unnecessary stuff as possible. When I say necessary I mean for the motor to run smoothly, not cleanly. 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
Ωhm
Plug vacuum line to EGR. This disable EGR valve. Connect fuel tank fumes to charcoal canister. Vacuum canister is needed for HVAC doors during WOT conditions. MAP hooked up to vacuum?

Vacuum canister is needed for HVAC doors during WOT conditions. MAP hooked up to vacuum? Okay, I’ll put the vac canister back and plug the egr line. Map is getting vacuum from the throttle body. Do I need the charcoal canister or can I just run the fume line straight to the manifold?87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
Ωhm
Don't run manifold vacuum to the fuel tank. Just hook line to charcoal canister and let it vent to air from there.
