Woah Black Betty! Ham or Lamb?!

Recommended Posts

I'm all for a V8 just like Mopar in a Mopar but a 6.0 LS definitely packs more punch. Can't wait to see that build thread.
Itll be a year or so, been collecting parts for a year I think ao far. Got a 99 LQ4 (whole truck) and got a 2wd tranny instead of the 4x4, novak radiator with fans and motor mounts and headers and a full swb mj dual exhaust.

Plan is to just swap the motor straight over, dyno then mildly build it. Then turbo it.
Ivr got an amc20 with 3.73s that I'm thinking of using

Little update:
Got Betty filled with fluids, a gas tank rigged up cuz the one in it was filled with nasty rust (not worth saving), driveshaft out of my cummins MJ swapped in, electric fan wired to the battery.
Started it up, let it run, checked for leaks;none
Checked levels of fluids; good.
Put it in gear;it lurched forward as I held the brakes.
Good enough for the night! Hopefully I can do more tonight. (Gotta weld up some hitches for some members!)

But according to Bo, this is the first time in 12 years that this truck has moved under it's own power since the owner before me, besides Bo, blew it up...YAY!

Everything up to this point and even from here in out has been very simple to fix and get finished up, I just havent had time to work on her.

Getting closer!

Backstory on how i got this truck:

About 8 months or so ago when Bo (shelvyluvv) was selling his 86 MJ, black betty, we started talking about it and he talked me into buying it. Ended up throwing him some cash over the next few months and built him some bumpers for his cj5, that he sold before I could deliver the bumpers. But that worked out a little better for me.(has now turned into building a rear bumper for his 48 ford.)

Sounds like an awesome exchange, and it was, except we were/are 2000 miles apart. I'm in Cory, Indiana and he is in 29 palms, California.

So we set a date for the end of February and slowly started to count down the days.

During this time I got ahold of John Jackson (johnj) and ended up going 500 miles north and picking up his TDI swapped MJ and hauling it out to Cali with me.

I ended up selling the cj5 bumper to a guy in cali and building a rear bumper, that some of you have seen, for Noah Bricker in Death Valley. Good timing and locations of buyers. (My trip is documented in the Pub section)

So I got Black Betty back home after 9 days on the road.

Half way through the 5.2L swap. All the hard work done, wiring and mounting the engine and transmission.

Still a lot of little stuff to do. Slowly getting it done.

I was talking to him on Facebook but he kinda went ghost mode, wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to go all the way to Cali for nothing, but sounds like he’s pretty legit right?
