omega_rugal
only 4 gear works? the countershaft is gone... Ā replace that transmission, it`s easier than rebuilding it, chevy trannies are cheap and abundant in junkyards...
Comanche kid520
The countershaft ok how does that work and will a chevy tranny fit for my jeep ??Ā
Jeep Driver
The AX4 or AX5 only came behind the Wrangler, XJ or MJ, with the 2.5, no other vehicles, IOWs you won't' find them in a Chevy. Ā Ā I agree though, same happened to mine..........counter shaft is toast.Ā Ā Ā Ā Find a good used one, or go to Ebay and get one for $700 that is rebuilt. With core/shipping the final cost may be about $900.Ā Ā Local rebuild will run you about $1200..........they will get you on parts costs.Ā
Jeep Driver
Something along the lines of this- Ā https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wrangler-87-02-YJ-TJ-2-5L-4CYL-AX5-5-Speed-Remanufactured-Transmission/272814701361?hash=item3f8505fb31:g:zhkAAOSw1g9ZmwsM&vxp=mtr Ā Ā They will demand core up front, you pay return shipping, core is refunded........if your shipping is $100..........your total cost is $800. Ā Ā Ā You didn't say if it was 2W or 4W........... Ā I've replaced my 4 times, each with a used, average used cost is about $300, you'll need to look around.Ā
