ftpiercecracker1
Bottom line, I need a new trans, been searching for a long time. Need quick advice from someone with nv3550 experience. At $250 this probably won't last long. Trying to find a decent manual transmission, at any price, is like hunting hen's teeth. Don't know if this problem is easily remedied or more systemic. https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/pts/d/jeep-transmission-2001/6379113977.html Thanks, FPC EDIT: contacted owner, still available as of 10:40pm 11/8. Pete M
tried car-part.com?
ftpiercecracker1
Yes. . . . . . and yes it's true they do have quite a few for sale on there, but I'm leary of buying a trans that I can't lay my hands on, a used one especially. Same goes for any big ticket/easy to get screwed on, auto part. Engine, trans, diff, t-case, etc. I've dealt with enough slimeball, shifty eye'd, junkyard thieves to be extremely cautious. You have to take accept their word and simply hope they are honorable people. Even if they are honorable and the item was damaged in transit or they send the wrong part by accident the hassle of sending it back, exchanging money, trying to get/find the right part has kept me from going to CarPart.com route. I think that qualifies as a rant. Rant over. FPC.
Jeep Driver
Maybe you could talk to this guy. https://orlando.craigslist.org/pts/d/ax-5-ax-15-nv3550-rebuild/6372829652.html
87Warrior
At 140k miles (130k of those are mine), the NV3550 in my '03 Rubi is still smooth and a pleasure to drive. Unlike several folks, I never have met an AX15 that impressed me, so I would do what it takes to get the NV3550. I would have any used transmission rebuilt before installing it. The asking price seems a little steep for a transmission with a known problem.
carnuck
Just an FYI, but when I tried to put an AX15 from a TJ in an XJ, the shifter was further forward. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The other one had been rebuilt, but was popping out of gear. That guy was asking $450. Is the problem with the TJ shifter simply a matter of swapping out the stick or is it the actual location of the pedestal?

ftpiercecracker1
Don't want to leave this thread hanging. This was my last correspondence with the seller. I have heard nothing back from him. I take that to mean he does not want to divulge that information.
