Skorpyo
I'd like to add power windows to my MJ and there's a set of rear XJ doors with power windows for sale locally for really really cheap. Anyone know if the motors on these can be swapped into front doors? It doesn't look like the parts are the same for the XJs on front vs rear, but wondering if anyone has tried? I highly doubt they are the same. For the time it would take to make it work, your money and energy would be better spent finding a front set of doors with power options. Yeah, i know they're different part numbers and the motors are differently shaped... i was just wondering if anyone else had tried it since there was such a cheap set nearby... Thanks! AMC86Kid
it all depends on how cheap they are and how good are you at installing them if it was up to me i would do it, but only if i can get them cheap because i know that there will be a lot of custom fabrication to get it to work otherwise i would just spend more money to get the correct parts because that means it will be less work so you need to ask yourself (are you willing to put in the effort) or (is the amount of money I'm saving really worth the work)

Honestly when it comes to jobs I'm not sure I want to do (or how to go about them) I always measure how much I'm willing to do a job myself vs pay somebody by how much I'll save divided by the hours it would take me and if that is more than I make at my job per hour, then I usually do it myself. With the MJ it's a bit different in that I don't want to waste the effort of screwing up the doors by trying to fab in something that wasn't supposed to go that way in the first place and then realize I could have spent a bit more and made it work the "right way". There's also the "fun" factor of the job. Putting an 8.8 in my MJ was mostly because I wanted to upgrade the rear and putting in an 8.8 would be fun. I'm an involved dad and husband and I work 50+ hours a week so it time for the MJ is slim between the honey do list and standard house owner maintenance. I'll probably just wait until the situation is right and I get power doors that work right for a decent price.
HOrnbrod
Just install XJ power regulators/switches and wire them up. Why replace the doors unless you want/need to replace the doors? Then you have fitment, painting, etc. which will probably end up costing more in both time and money.
carnuck
They don’t go down as far and aren’t as strong as the front ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh, I do not plan to replace the doors, but to get used doors with power locks and windows to source the parts into MY doors is WAY cheaper than buying the aftermarket replacements motors and regulators that do not come with wiring... Local JY sells doors for $50 a pop so both doors with everything I need to do this conversion would be cheaper than a single dorman motor/regulator for the passenger side. I meant pull the regulators and switches/harness from a donor, but if you can get the doors @ $50/ea, that's better. Don't forget to grab the cross-body harness too. I got new Electric Life regulators because I didn't want to use the crappy Mopar slooooow-azz regulators.
Minuit
$50 a side not including the crossbody harness is an ok deal if the door harnesses are fully intact. I paid a little less than that including the x-body harness but of course I had to spend a couple hours on a cold rainy day in the junkyard removing door guts and removing the seats, console, and carpet to get to the crossbody harness. Are the door wiring harnesses uncut? They plug into the crossbody harness inside the truck, not inside the door. Obviously if this is a pick-and-pull type junkyard, just don't cut the harnesses when you remove the doors You'll want the crossbody harness from a 91 or 92 XJ since everything is pretty well self contained for those years... or just make your own. Earlier years have problems with very slow lock actuators and later years have the relays in the dash harness IIRC. You'll want to grab the fusebox taps and circuit breakers that go with them. I don't see why people say to replace the doors when doing the power window swap unless you need new doors anyway. Replacing the old manual regulators, adding the wiring, and adding the lock actuators was not difficult.
Skorpyo
All of this is assuming I can find one in a local JY and have the time and $ to do so. I am pretty much booked and tapped out of Jeep $ right now so this may be a next year or whenever the opportunity presents itself.
