HighRyder
So i bought a comanche thats been sitting around for the past two years, really not driven even a 100 miles a year and sm wondering what maintenance and issue checking i should do. Obviously the floorboards, belt, the oil and fluids. Battery was replaced in 15. Would there be any chance hoses and such would have dry rotted? It starts and runs alright. Dzimm
There is always a possibility of dry rotted hoses, you'll have to check them to see. What year truck is it? If it's Renix then check out cruiser's renix tips in the DIY section. Even if it is HO there is some good info there so I'd check that out regardless. Best things to start with is make sure all fluids are new, check the tires and brakes, clean all grounds and electrical connections that are easy to reach. On these old trucks there are numerous things that can go wrong. To be more specific we need to know more about the truck like year, engine, trans, etc.
Pete M
no harm in replacing the hoses along with the antifreeze just for piece of mind. Brake parts are another concern after lots of sitting. make sure the calipers are lubed up and the hoses show no signs of cracking. also check the hard lines as the pass by the gas tank. it's where rust generally forms first and pops them. Your signature says it's an 88 Pioneer, ~30 years old, and above you state "really not driven even a 100 miles a year". So does this mean the truck odometer indicates ~3000 miles? Is the odo working? Did you happen to run a Carfax report or similar before you purchased it? True mileage is the first thing I'd check.
