Dropped Optima. Any good?

Well I ordered a pair of Optima D34M Bluetop batteries from Amazon the other day. They showed up but are damaged because the packaging is a joke. One is completely not usable as the case is cracked, the other only has a small dent on the top corner.

I already got a full refund sent so no worries there but what I want to know is, do you think it is OK to run the dented one or should I fork over the extra money and buy a new one? On Amazon they are $200 each but I don't want to chance this again so I want to buy locally. Everywhere around here charges $250 each. I already cringe at the cost from Amazon so I'd like to try and not have to spend anymore..

that sucks. :( does the cracked one show voltage?

Yes.  They both read 12.9v.  More than likely there is only damage to the case but I don't want to take the chance with the cracked one.  The dented one I'm leaning towards using.

Why didn't you simply return the batteries and tell them to try again?

I won't pay for damaged anything.

They won't do a return because they are considered hazardous.  They refunded me everything I payed so I didn't pay anything and I get to keep them.  They did offer to send replacements but with the crappy packaging, I don't want to risk going through this again.  Plus I am showing the truck at the All Breeds Iowa Jeep Show next weekend so I really don't have time to deal with back and forth replacements.   I am going to Autozone after work tomorrow to buy 1 at $250 but I'm not sure whether I want to run the dented battery or buy 2 at Autozone for $100 more than I would have payed Amazon.

Ok, free to you then, good.

I'd wrap that cracked on up with some 200mph duct tape and forget about it.

Use the dented one unless you have an issue with the dent.  Should be fine...Just cosmetic damage   As for the one with the cracked case, try filling/patching the cracks with JB Weld, then put the battery in a plastic battery box and use it as your secondary.  That is the cheap way out.  If they last a year or two years...well you are money ahead.  My guess is you will get full life out of at least one of them and 50 to 70% lifetime out of the cracked case one.

Study their prices carefully, compare. You'll find that they are marked up beyond the 30% that they make you think you are getting off.

I've all but stopped buying from them for that reason, I don't like my intelligence insulted.

I get their 20% off ads everyday even though everyone knows they have 30% off codes.
