natander2ksometime
I took it on a few longer highway trips. Aside from the horribly cracked Gibson header and horribly bent rear bumper, it was perfect!
natander2ksometime
I did some solo wheeling on my birthday... And some wheeling with my best friend and his family.
natander2ksometime
A friend of mine sent me this from the Golden Cruise in Golden, CO. I wasn't there, so I don't know anything about it. Looks pretty well done though!
natander2ksometime
We did Red Cone and Radical Hill sometime in August. Always my favorite trail! Pic credits: Patrick H
natander2ksometime
In a mad rush before the MJ Takeover this year, I built a new exhaust for the Jeep. Don't judge the welds. I used flux core and did it all in an apartment garage lol I also took the Gibson header off, and replaced it with a Banks. The Banks seemed like a much higher quality. Fitment, design....overall better. I also did poly motor mounts at the same time. Here's the Gibson after only a few years. Then, I took the insurance money from the accident and bought something I wouldn't have spent the money on otherwise. It ended up being well worth it. I also added new Metalcloak 4.5" springs, along with a poly spacer. It turns out, dual rate springs do not work well with spacers. I still have them on there, but by the end of Moab, the spring began to eat the spacer...
natander2ksometime
One last thing was a new hitch and bumper brackets from Dirtbound. We took the topper off for Moab again this year. It's nice to see it like this once in a while.
natander2ksometime
This year, my girlfriend and I actually planned the MJ Takeover for the first time! It was a lot of work, but ended up being absolutely worth it. We drove out in separate cars again (because redundancy when road tripping this is smart), but didn't make it to town for the first run. The rest of the group ran Cliffhanger on Thursday, and we ended up catching them at the exit. Here's Tim making his way out. natander2ksometime
Later that afternoon, we planned a barbeque in one of the city parks. It was an amazing time and a lot of people stepped up to make it happen. Big thanks to everyone who put work into this! Afterwards, we went with Ruben to see if you could run Hells Revenge at night. Turns out, you can! It's a lot harder to navigate at night, that's for sure.
natander2ksometime
On Friday, we ran Metal Masher. My good friend Andy's Slamche. I got this sweet shot of Dave getting wild on this obstacle. PC: Robyn PC: Tyler PC: Rachel We ended up taking a different way back than the rest of the group. natander2ksometime
On Saturday, we started with the first half of Fins n Things. After lunch, two of us went and did a trail we had never done before. It was honestly a great trail, and I'd definitely do it again. We didn't see another person on the entire trail, on a Saturday nonetheless! Then we did a bit of exploring in Arches. The next day, we drove back home without issues! After all of the engine work, I was able to turn the cruise control on, blast the AC, and still do the speed limit!
natander2ksometime
The weekend after Moab, I went out with some friends and did Bill Moore Lake. It's definitely unique for me to be able to wheel in Moab, and again the next weekend haha Then, a friend and I took an overlandy trip to go mountain biking in Canon City. Again, it performed flawlessly!
natander2ksometime
And that catches me up once again! Unfortunately, I recently discovered that the MJ Takeover will not happen in Moab again. Strange, because we were the ones that planned it, but apparently it's out of my hands. It looks like Sand Hollow is the new destination. I refuse to break down in St. George again. It's too high risk. So, the MJ Takeover was nice while it lasted! natander2ksometime
Well, it has been over a year since I last updated this! If anyone still reads this, I'll get it updated in the next few weeks. I'm currently working on putting engine #3 in this thing...
pizzaman09
I'm curious on your opinion on taking a stock 4x4 short bed Comanche to Moab or St. George. I've been to Moab twice and rented two door JKs both times that were mega built, however I have an itch to make the 3000 mile drive in my MJ to run it somewhere not muddy. I feel like it could easily handle the first half of Hells Revenge and probably a lot of Fins and Things but am worried about dragging the rear bumper. I'm confident it wouldn't get far in Poison Spider Mesa. I plan to scout out the St. George area this year when I head out and rent some side by sides for a day. I believe you are correct with Hells Revenge and Fins n Things. I would be equally concerned about the rockers without some sort of slider. The bumper on a short bed is certainly at risk to hit, but it should be manageable if you are familiar with your truck. With that being said, there are so many more trails than Hells Revenge that would be appropriate for stock-er trucks. I have found so many cool things that didn't require big tires or lockers. If you'd like, feel free to PM me and I can give you guys more recommendations. As far as Sand Hollow goes, I've never wheeled there. I have a bit of concern about how crazy the trails are, but again, I guarantee there are more adventurous routes within the park. I know from experience that there are amazing roads to explore in that part of Utah that go beyond Sand Hollow.

The trouble I've found is just knowing what a trail has, I had purchased a trail book for Moab and used that to research the trails I went on with some success and some not. Even knowing what trails are maintained was a complete unknown, last time I was out there we ended up an a very scary place because 7 mile rim had been blocked off and we didn't know it until we were on a ledge looking a 1000ft down. Generally staying to the popular trails helps. A more local person like you is so awesome to be able to talk to to get the scoop on trails that are passable for stock vehicles. I'm looking forward to scouting out sand hollow area this year and seeing what we think will be stock Comanche capable.
