Double Six Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Does the 2.5 ltr. 4 banger have a distributor sensor in it ? or is it controlled with the ICM ?
omega_rugal Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 now that we are on the subject, do anyone have some sort of manual for the older carburated 4 bangers? been searching the internet but only the manual for the 4.0 pops up...
ARareBreed Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I know my 4.0 distributor has a sensor. Its called the pickup coil or stator. It caused my engine to die without notice and wouldn't fire up. Similar to a crank position sensor failure. I changed it out without replacing the entire distributor and haven't skipped a beat since. Learned a lot through the whole process, especially learning how to completely disassemble a distributor and how to find top dead center. I recommend finding an exploded view of a 4 banger distributor for your year and checking if there is a stator in it. Otherwise just go look if there are electrical wires coming out of it..
HOrnbrod Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Does the 2.5 ltr. 4 banger have a distributor sensor in it ? or is it controlled with the ICM ? According to the 86 factory parts manual the 2.5 carbed model distributor has a sync sensor (p/n 83500409) and the 2.5 TBI model does not.
