When I first got my MJ running after it sat for nearly 20 years, the clutch would "catch" when the pedal was nearly all the way out.

It stayed that way up until recently. I do not recall an exact moment that it happened, but one day the clutch began engaging sooner. It wasn't gradual at all and it hasn't continue to change engagement positions, but now the clutch engages relatively quickly.

I actually noticed it when I was driving around with my girlfriend and realized I was shifting like crap. I was so used to it engaging late that I wasn't giving any gas when it actually started to engage, leading to a rougher ride from my crappy driving.

Anyways, at that point I realized the clutch was engaging sooner than usual.

Any ideas?

What trans do you have - AX4, AX5, BA10 or AX15?

It sounds like you are loosing hydraulic fluid

When the spring in my master cylinder snapped, my clutch would engage in the first inch of travel, and release close to the floor. New master fixed the issue.

I will probably pull the tranny and replace everything.  Is there a particular brand people are sticking with for slave and clutch master cylinders?

This truck sat for 20 years before I got it so I'm slowing finding seals going out all over so little by little I'm fixing various leaks, so I am truly not surprised by the slave or master cylinder failing.
