Id like to swap a ford 9" under my 87 is it a great choice ?! don't want to spend on jks 44 and not planning puttin some 48s tire so dana 60 isnt really worth it... pain in the @$$ job or preaty easy ?

Isn't the front diff on the passenger side on a Chief?

Yes but i plan to maybe cut it and switch it... i can't buy only the rear one the guy is givin me both so was thinkin of the option

what is the plan for the truck?

Street/trail truck.... max 37s tires spartan locker in the back detroit true track in the front 6-8" lift kit long arm 4L stroker thats about it

Didnt buy the 44 finally i found a ford f100 9" for free ill keep my d30 hd in the front hdo you have any tips for me ill start the swap soon

Unfortunately, you bought a less desirable 9". If it did in fact come from an F100, it has 28 spline shafts and small bearing ends iirc. Been a while since I really dived into it but that sounds right.

 

The F150s had 31 spline shafts and large bearings ends.

Just saw that it was free, but still, it is probably not worth swapping it in.

 

A Ford 8.8 would probably suit you better.

Easy job to do, the small bearing 28 spline isn't terrible. Worst comes to worst, bring it to a speed/machine shop and have them weld torino or big bearing ends on.
