ComancheLee Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 What diff oil goes the Dana 35 and do I need to add any friction modificer??
ComancheKid45 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Standard 80w90 is fine. Check the bottle also since most gear oils already include a modifier.
Eagle Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Friction modifier is needed only if the diff has a clutch-type limited slip. I disagree that "most" gear oils already contain friction modifier. My experience is that "most" do not.
jeeptec1 Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 My MJ owners manual states 80w-90. If vehicle is equipped with tow package use 80w-140 add 4oz of friction modifier if have limited slip. There should be a tag on the rear diff hopefully Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jtrux Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 If it is your DD, and you are unable to pull the cover and drain the fluid before buying new stuff, just buy the one with friction modifier and put it in. Nothing bad will happen. If you are able to pull the cover to inspect it first, then compare what you are seeing to pics on the ol' Google machine, and see what type of carrier you have, and purchase accordingly.
Jtrux Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Oh, as far as brand, I typically buy the Castrol stuff since it is readily available and seems to do well. I use it in all my vehicles.
