Has anyone used the media blasting preparation before paint or should a quality paint job take it down to bare metal to begin. I am the original owner of an 88 Pioneer, Colorado red paint(bad formula), should the bedliner be applied first,its applied to bare metal correct?

Looking to have it looking new, with badges in  the correct places and pioneer decals ,not costing twice as much as its worth!

Doesn't have to be applied to bare metal, just clean, dry, and sanded.

No, just the inside of the bed! I asked because it doesn't make sense to paint it when bedliner sticks better to bare metal, that should be done first?

the bedliner should stick just fine to paint too. :thumbsup:  but read the specific instructions that your bedliner has.  they are not all made of the same stuff.

I will leave the bedlining to the pros, should it go all the way up under the rails on the bed,or is there a standard?

Is one brand better than the other?

I'd paint it first and then bedline it.

 

As to if you want to go over the rails, or to them, that's up to you.  I'd go over, personally, but some people don't like the look.

I would bedline first... If you bedline it, then decide to paint and tape off the bedliner for a "line" and the adhesive from said tape takes some off with it, you're not out much.. the other way around.. you could be out a lot.. I painted cars for years and this has happened to me  :doh:

I would have the paint done first and let it properly age before putting the bed liner on it.   Also, I would use the bed liner exactly what it is for:  To line the bed of the truck and protect the inside of the bed.  Your new paint job should protect the bed rails just fine.  Also, doing it this way, you keep the paint and the bedliner in different, clearly defined areas.

 

My Comanche has a plastic bed liner that goes over the bed rails.  I don't think it looks all that great over the bed rails without the SnugTop on it.  I do like a metal/chrome edge guard on the top of the tailgate for protection along with a heavy rubber tailgate mat.
