front fender liners

Recommended Posts

Hello, Were or is there a good replacement front fender liner. I've done a search and seems like the crown liners are pretty cheap and thin material. Just going by what some members have said. Is there a source out there I have not found that makes a OEM equivalent or close to it in quality. Thanks Paul

EDIT:  I just looked at the fine print on the bottom of the page, it said:

Sorry but this item is currently unavailable. Please check back at a later stage.

That being said, I replaced mine a few years ago with a set from RockAuto. They actually fit quite well and still look fine. You have to look them up using the OEM part numbers 55175008 and 55175009.

I got lucky and found a set out of a 1996 XJ in the yard that were still nice and pliable. Not sure if the 97+ are the same, but if they are that would make it easier to find a good set. Apparently several people have reported good or at least decent results with the aftermarket ones too.

I bought two sets from Rockauto for my XJ and MJ.  They are a different material than original but that isn't an issue to me if they are durable.  Also, I recall they were pretty inexpensive.  So far I have only installed one, and it wasn't as good a fit as the original.  I ended up with a gap where they are supposed to meet the inner edge of the fender flare.  It's noticeable at the rear portion of the front wheel well.  Maybe the other 3 will be better when I get around to it.  But, I think I would look for a good original set at a junkyard if I had that option.

Here's what my aftermarket looks like:

I've tried pulling it back behind the flare: no luck.  It just slide back out.

I tried a little heat (not much, I did not want to damage the paint), with similar results.

I have just given up.

(Sorry for the blur.  I took it at night.  My phone must have been drinking.)

Hmm. I got mine a RockAuto and they fit all the flare bracket studs very well. All I had to do was punch out a push nut hole that was missing. But that was maybe 10-11 years ago. I guess they have changed vendors. Good luck finding a usable pair in the yard.

Agree finding a usable pair can be hit or miss.  Many just crumble apart as soon as you touch them.  That's why I bought from Rockauto.  Mine look like 87MJTIM's above (gap).  Since then I've come across a few 95-96 XJs with front fender liners that looked good and were still very pliable, but haven't bothered to pull them.  So I think they can still be found if one is patient.
