Short or long Shaft speedo gear

Do I need a short or long shaft speedometer gear for a 1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 with manual 5 speed?

Long is for cable driven

Short is for electronic driven

Incorrect. Renix and 91 to mid-93 HO MJ/XJ used long shaft speedo gears.

The short shaft gears started on the mid-93 and after models.

Nope. You'll need a long speedo gear. Think it's 93 and up that uses the short gear.

Welp... I just learned something new.  I was going by the handful of transfer cases I've pulled from various years and the XJ's I've owned/worked on... Thanks for the clarification, Don. :thumbsup:

All Comanche years used the long shaft gear. The short shaft appeared in the 1993 model year.
