  1. Do I need a short or long shaft speedometer gear for a 1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 with manual 5 speed? Thanks,
  2. Great. Thanks for all the help guys. I am going to go with the 98 xj brake booster, master cylinder and prop valve with ZJ innards.
  3. Thanks for the reply. How much longer is the rod length? Will using the 1/4" plate space it off the firewall enough? Why did you use the ZJ innards? Can you not just use a ZJ prop valve?
  4. Got it. Thanks for the reply. One more question: Will parts from a 98 xj or 99 grand cherokee work or do they have to be from a 95/96 xj? I only ask because I found these assemblies for a good deal. Thanks
  5. I recently finished doing an 8.8 SOA swap in my 1991 Jeep comanche Pioneer 4.0 manual. I need to do something about the brakes because they are seriously lacking in stopping power. Currently all I have done is eliminated the rear proportioning valve. I am going to swap in a 95/96 XJ brake booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve. My question is seeing that the 8.8 has disc brakes do I need to find a brake booster, master cylinder and prop valve from a donor vehicle that also has disk brakes or will a donor with drums work? What would be the best set up to keep the rears from locking up before the fronts under extreme braking conditions? Thanks in advance.
  6. I am getting ready to do an 8.8 swap SOA and lift on my 91' Comanche Pioneer. I have one final question before I finalize my parts list. I have looked through the 2 budget lift topics on the DIY Projects page and found that they only mention upgrading the trac bar...is this really all that needs addressing? What about Tie Rod & Draglink? I am planning on running 5.5" of lift and 32" tires. Won't be off-roading her hard. Mainly being built as a hunting truck. Btw the 2 lists I looked through can be found here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/43844-the-diy-700-off-road-capable-soa/ http://www.nonamestudios.com/experimentalinsanity.com/vehicle/resources/mj-lift.html Thanks, Jack
  7. My tires are 205/75/15 and the gears are 3.07. I think these tires are too small. My speedometer is off by about 5mph as well.
  8. I recently did the popular gauge cluster swap. The gauge cluster came out of my retired 95 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 with auto trans. When it was in the Cherokee i'd cruise down the highway at 75 and 2800 rpm. Now that it is in my 91 Comanche (4.0 h.o. manual trans) when I cruise down the highway at 75 the engine spins at around 1500. This seems low to me and when I rev the engine the tacometer barely reaches 2500 rpm. Is there an issue with the tacometer or does a manual trans jeep just rev lower? Thanks, Jack
  9. 91 Comanche 4.0. I have no turn, brake or hazard lamps. Did some diagnostics today and found that I don't have any power to the Hazard fuse terminal or the hazard flasher. There is power to the turn signal fuse terminal. Checked the hazard flasher for continuity and it is good. Has anyone run into this problem before? I'm also not quite sure if power goes from ignition to flasher to fuse box or the other way around? Can somebody offer some insight? Much appreciated, Jack
  10. Hello. I'm new to the forum. I have driven a Cherokee till recently when I cracked the frame so I just bought a 1991 Jeep Comanche, 4.0L 5 speed. Went to push it out of my garage today and I wasn't able to roll it forward. It will roll backwards no problem. Does anyone know why this is? There is also a suspicious transmission or hub whine, not sure if this correlates to the problem. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks, Jack
