Is there a shelf life on gear lube?

Oil's shelf life is pretty good. I don't know if it's 30 years good, though. I expect that eventually some of the additives will slowly break down some of the base oils. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were some poorly maintained cars from the 80's kicking around with original gear oil in them still.

That's the stuff with whale blubber in it.

Huh. We called it 'Whale S..T" cause it smells so bad....

Remember that stuff? Worked great though. Nothing like it back thin.

My sample is 52 years old and in pristine condition (collector quality).  I think I will post it on Ebay for $60 and see what’s offered. I had that 64 Buick special with the  positraction rear end, I must of bought it back then.
