This might be a very stupid and newbie question, but I don't know and I don't want to make any stupid purchases... there are three types of taillights for our beloved comanches, black trim, red trim, and chrome trim... is chrome trim the same as silver trim? Or is a set of tail lights with labeled "silver trim" just a pair that have been painted silver

 

I guess what I'm getting at is are the chrome trim taillights obviously chrome or is it a very loosely applied term?

Are you asking if it's chromed metal or chrome paint?

 

I could be way wrong but I don't believe there is any metal on any MJ tail lights...just chrome "paint"

There is both chrome and silver on the Laredo taillights . The reason that some people call them silver is that the chrome paint as mentioned above wears off over time , it can even rub off in the boxes they come brand new in .

 

Here is a close up picture showing both the silver and chrome ( that has worn off in some areas ) .

Those have been painted then clear-coated by someone, most likely the seller. This is what decent used factory lamps should look like:

If you can get the part numbers that are on the black part of the taillight it will tell you what trim they were ( the pics are not clear enough for me to see them ) . Btw if you post a wanted ad on here a CC member will probably have a better deal on a pair for you ...

EDIT:  Just checked - the p/n's look correct on the Ebay lamps - so they were originally the chrome/silver lights. The seller probably touched up the silver because it was worn. Personally, as Adam said, I'd keep looking for a better deal.

Yeah i have posted a wanted ad on here I just keep checking eBay. That guy was originally asking 560 for those lights which is ridiculous

But just for 100% clarity, the chrome trim around the tail lights should obviously be chrome and have somewhat of a mirror finish depending on wear and fading. It shouldn't look like silver paint?

I'm guessing that you're looking for a pair of silver / chrome trimmed lights ? 5 minutes of searching found this pair ( not chrome ) for $75 + shipping ( Ontario I know ) but how much could that possibly be ? Not $225

Like hornbrod said, someone detailed those out.  I could probably get $100 a light without doing a thing to them IF I were to sell them, but if I ever break one I can fix the extras I have with just red, red and dark red, red and silver or red and chrome with a little paint. Besides, if I was to sell them I wouldn't try to ream someone in need of them.  $300 is steep.

 

So the $75 is a good deal IMHO

Yeah i have been searching for a little over a week now and everything I can seem to find either has damage or are in super bad condition or cost the price of a first born.

 

All I am looking good for is a set that has no damage and in decent shape... i am capable of cleaning a set up, but I'm obviously not able to fix anything damaged

I have a set of NOS tail lights, but the price is $500+ shipping. And your first born child.

 

Seriously, you can do much better as others have said. And if you want to spend 500 just buy my NOS lights

I sent the guy a question he said there not touched up and all he did was wipe them with plastic cleaner.   Still very pricey if you want good ones I would JUMP  on the above posts new ones right away 500.00 is not bad at all for new I have seen them sell for way more.

When I broke my passenger side tailight I was able to get a set of red and red tailights and a sport truck roll bar for $100 from a junkyard.
