This is the factory tank out of my 86. Something is off with this tag?

I know this truck is a very early truck. The VIN tells me that. What I was getting at is the tag says 16.0 GAL and that is quite clearly a 23.5 gallon tank

Excerpt from the 86 factory parts manual:

Notice the 23.5 gal and 16 gal tanks use the same part number and are the same physical dimensions? So it must be an internal baffling thing because the tanks require different senders.

Hmmmm... what gives? The only thing inside is the slosh pan.

isn't that the case where they changed the vent tube to adjust how much fuel could go in before station pump shuts off?

I checked the fill and vent tubes and they hang down about 6" from the top of the tank.

This tank will probably end up in the scrap pile. I am making no progress on getting this rust out of it.

Hey Bo, before you scrap it, give me a shout.  I want to play with the tank to see about raising the vent for more capacity like the go-jeep article.  Really don't want to screw up my 91 tank with an experiment.

Sounds good. If the Evapo-rust doesn't work it's yours
