Two different short consoles?

I have a couple short consoles.  One is shorter than the others.

The longer one I pulled from an XJ (93-94 model)

 

The shorter one, I don't remember where I pulled it, but I think it was from a Comanche.

 

Does anyone know if there are specific applications for these two different consoles?

Looks like the attachment screw holes are in the same places, so either one should fit. The one on the right looks like the one in my MJ. The one on the left just looks longer at the front, ahead of the shifter boot opening.

I agree, except do you have the left and right switched in your comment?

 

I'm wondering if the shorter one is a MJ specific part, and if so, is there a downside to using the longer one in an MJ?

I think the short one is for a manual trans and the larger is for the floor shift auto which has the shift cable that comes out the front.

That makes sense! The longer console covers the shift cables. Although the shift boot / shift indicator both fit each console. So one could use the longer one in a manual app I think.

I have a '90 Comanche (2.5l/ 4 speed manual) and the console I have is like the one on the left (short one).  Would love to get ahold of a longer one though. Would give me some room for some switches and USB ports :)

I switched my short one for a long one in my manual, i like it more
