FarmerBrown5 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I know that everyone is saying to use 10w-30 in their trannys now, but I am confident that going with redline is the best fit for me. The problem I am having is knowing whether to go with a GL-4 or GL-5. The Haynes manual says GL-5, but after reading other forums and writeups it seems as though GL-4 is better? This is my DD and won't see any towing time in the near future. Any insight is appreciated!
FarmerBrown5 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 GL-4 it is. I can find the Redline MT90 in GL-5 is why I was asking.
onlyinajeep726 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Here you go: http://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-50305-MT-90-Oil/dp/B002INX20C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453131313&sr=8-2&keywords=redline+mt-90+gl-4 GL-5 is bad due to the level of sulfur friction modifier that will eat away at the brass syncronizers used in the AX-15. The factory owner's manual is mistaken and it should have never been printed in there. Good job, Chrysler.
FarmerBrown5 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Just submitted my order. I heard thats what GL-5 will do, but was told only when the tranny gets to certain temps. Yes, good job, Chrysler. Thanks for the help fellers!
fiatslug87 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 GL-4 it is. I can find the Redline MT90 in GL-5 is why I was asking. MT-90 is only GL-4 according to the Redline website, they do make GL-5 but it's not called MT-90. http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=7
Megadan Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I run MT90 in mine, Waaaay better than Synthetic motor oil that I ran during break in. And as confirmed above, MT-90 is GL4.
