Jackrabbit41
So i want to get or make a rear bumper that looks like this, http://www.nates4x4.com/Comanche_Rear_Bumper_p/mjr.htm, but the thing i really want to do is add some extensions to the rear bumper that protects the quarter panels. (i got a long bed so i know and have seen how smashed up they get from coming down on stuff). I'm not really sure what/how to do this and i am just starting to weld. I want it to look like this: [/url]">http://http://s1148.photobucket.com/user/Jackrabbit123/media/33244480045_large_zpsej6zkdjd.jpg.html'> anyone got any ideas? thanks
shelbyluvv
I was in this same boat. By the time I priced steel, wire, gas, electric and all the other things needed to make my own it came out cheaper to just buy the Nate's rear bumper. I have my stocker on right now until I can con Nate into building sliders for a SWB MJ.

What gauge steel did you use? And did you make that tire carrier or did you buy that?
MJam86
Bumper is 1/4" or 3/8" plate i can't remember now. I'm fairly certain it is 3/8". The tire carrier is made using the spindle assembly from Ruff Stuff, the main structure is .120 DOM and center structure and stub to plate is .250 DOM. It handles my 35 perfectly fine. neohic
Bumper is 1/4" or 3/8" plate i can't remember now. I'm fairly certain it is 3/8"... Eek... 3/8" for a bumper? For how tight the radius on the corners of the tube are, I'd say that it's 1/4". Regardless, I usually go with 3/16" or 1/4" when building m bumpers and then also 1/4" for brackets. Those numbers do change frequently though based off of whatever I might have sitting in my pile. :D

A lot of plating and building was done to my jeep over the course of 2 months. I really want to say it's 3/8 because i desperately wanted to add weight to the rear end, my front tends to crawl over rocks while my rear just bounces. daking
Here is a bumper my son and I did. Its a JCR, slightly modded. I wanted to add longer side protection too. I did not extend it as far as I wanted. I'll revisit the design later and hopefully extend towards the fender-flares. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found

I was thinking of just modding the nates 4x4 bumper, but it would be cheaper to just make my own
