shawn
this motor has always run like a top and still does. over 300 k on it. idles perfect and has lots of power but after coming down any long hill, once at the bottom and some throttle is applied it blows a huge puff of blue and then is instantly fine again. this is a newish development and seems to coincide with some fouled spark plugs recently. i'm fine with a motor swap but am wondering if perhaps i should only be thinking about changing the head. it does have the exhaust manifold crack as well as leaky rear main . Jeep Driver
Sounds to me like the oil is loading up in the front of the head......valve seals.
Eagle
Sounds to me like the oil is loading up in the front of the head......valve seals. Agreed.
Incommando
Valve seals is what popped into my head first, as well.
HOrnbrod
I'll be another Captain Obvious and agree it could be valve seals. But first check for a clogged CCV orifice and/or broken or blocked CCV tubing and hoses from the valve cover. Minuit
Valve seals. But first, do what Hornbrod said. CCV tube is much easier to fix than valve seals.
shawn
thank you gentlemen. i did clean that out last month and there was oil coming through into the airbox. this motor runs great like i said, but it does have a fairly bad rear main leak as well as leaking from the front of the motor too. the odometer was stopped at 300,000 when i got it years and years ago and i haven't been that nice to it. A guy on the island has a motor with 100000 km's on it that he wants 500 obo for so i am considering that. my only worry is i would hate to put in a different engine and not have it run as great as this one has. there's also a 94 xj for sale near me that runs well for $250 and have considered picking it up just for the head.( and a few miscellaneous parts that i don't really need.) Eagle
Valve seals (which aren't really seals, but deflectors) are very easy to install and don't require removing the head.
sinkrun
Newer XJ valve cover with the full baffle only way to go.
