GregM
My 89 may have had tow hooks, there is a painted sheetmetal piece located under the bumper that is pretty dinged up. It has two slots cut in it, and there were clearly some brackets that are no longer there. I ordered the tow hook kit and will see if it fits. Anyone know what that sheetmetal piece is called? I'm not having much luck finding it in the manual or on any web sites.

jimoshel
It's referred to as a 'valance panel' I believe it's welded to the frame so you won't find it listed in any repair manuals. Only special body shop manuals.
Eagle
Here's an image of the Custom 4x4 tow hook bracket set. It's pretty much a carbon copy of the factory kit. What's not shown here is the factory bumper brackets, which are used with this kit. Which part are you asking about? The following link will show you how it all goes together: http://jeephorizons.com/tech/xj_hook.html
Jeep Driver
The 'valance' or air dam........on mine is plastic, not metal.
HOrnbrod
The OP I think is referring to the radiator cross member piece under the bumper. It is an available replacement part and is not plastic. Part #1 in the diagram below:
az comanches
I think that part #2 is the lower part, its the one that the skid plate mounts to.
GregM
It is the Valance that I was looking for. Here is a photo of mine:

Have to read backwards between the lines with a Yout decoder ring.
HOrnbrod
Yep, I could use one of those especially on Comanche Club. Got a spare one?
