Arch_Stanton
A good family friend is looking for a reliable Jeep for about 6k. She had a Grand Cherokee that died on her recently, and she thinks she wants one of the SUV type Jeeps again, not a Wrangler or anything. I really don't know much about the Liberty, Compass, Patriot or anything after the XJ and was hoping you guys may have some input. Maybe a nice XJ would be a good option? She's a country singer, probably hauling around musical equipment and stuff, and although she wants something reasonable, it would be nice if it was kinda cool as well. She's pretty cool so I'd like to steer her right. Here's a video of her singing the national anthem at Texas Stadium, a pretty incredible moment, gets me all emotional and stuff. :USAflag: :rock on: :USAflag:
jimoshel
I don't think there is any such thing as a 'best Jeep for a girl.' If she's a tom boy she will want one of the off road sporty ones. If she's the more demure lady type a waggoneer type. Surely you have some friends with Jeeps that will let her drive one around the block. And there's always the dealer with his demos. Comanche County
WJ Limited 4.0 4x4. Nice leather, the interiors aren't as dated as a ZJ/XJ, classy good looks, good mileage, a bit of cargo space...$6K would get a pretty nice one.
BIGHEEP
I think it is more of a family Jeep than a girl Jeep but I would suggest a 2008+ Liberty. By the newer body style they had the bugs that plagued the first gen sorted out. We bought ours in 2008 and with 90k on it we have only had to do brakes thus far. Regular oil changes are key for the 3.7L.
Arch_Stanton
Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to pass those two options along and recommend that she test drive them to see what she thinks.
Tommy
The Commanders are pretty nice if she wants a larger Liberty.
Incommando
The same jeep as would be best for a boy: the one she wants.
Arch_Stanton
I should have phrased it, "best jeep for this girl." :)
Kerry
The WJ has a much better ride,is quieter, and has more room for both people and cargo than the XJ or ZJ. My wife drives one and averages around 18 mpg in the city and 21 mpg highway (6cyl/2wd). I would avoid the V-8 WJs,the 4.7's had reliability problems and were difficult to work on. I have not owned any of the newer models so I can't compare to them but the Grand Cherokee continues to sell so they gotta be doing something right. glundblad
Anything with the 4.0 in it. Very reliable. Inexpensive to repair and it is easy to find someone that can fix it.
87Warrior
My wife loves her WK despite the dismal fuel economy. It is actually worse than my TJ with 35's. The Hemi has been a new animal to learn, but it isn't too bad. QDII with electronic lockers made it remarkably agile when we took it on some forest roads in CO. I still wish we would have bought a WJ with a 4.0 instead of the WK, but she just did not like them. I have always had a soft spot for the WJ. On the bright side, I guess the WK is probably a safer SUV anyhow. I have no doubt an 05/06 WK could be had in your price range. Probably without the Hemi or QDII though. The Commander (XK) is nearly identical to a WK. Image Not Found
dasbulliwagen
The Commander is just a heavier slower WK. They are on the same platform. They were built to compete with the Hummers. It must have worked seeing where Hummer is at today.
Arch_Stanton
Good advice guys. I'm also partial to the WJ's as I daily drive one, and so do my mom and dad, all 4.0's. It's funny because they all have the same problems, and often all at the same time. We have all had to replace the front window motors, the rear taillights are prone to an electrical gremlin from a bad ground, all our headlights are fogged up and cloudy, and the plastic exterior trim pieces have faded and clouded. That being said, it's comfy, good cargo space, can still go kinda fast, handles well, and has been overall reliable. I'm going to recommend that she check out the 2008+ Liberty, WJ Limited 4.0 4x4, and the 05/06 WK's. I think the Commander may be a bit too big and expensive for her although they are pretty classy looking. Thanks again guys.
