New Metric Ton Leafs ordered!

Recommended Posts

After realizing my springs sagged pathetically with a only a few hundred pounds in the bed, I decided that I really needed new springs.

This plan has now been expedited since I somehow managed to break one of the support leafs..

So today I finally had time to give General Springs a call and got a discount on their best leafs.

I'm so excited to get these installed now!

Anyone have tips for installation? I've put new leafs in a Cherokee before, but not a Comanche.

I just finished a rear 8.8 swap so the ubolts and such are all new.

Should I expect to replace the leaf bolts? and if so, what are their dimensions?

I installed a set of these years ago; expect about 2.0"-2.5" lift over what you have now. They don't settle too much either, maybe 1/2". I reused my leaf spring bolts; they were not even rusted. Be sure to clean/grease them up when installing. If you need new bolts, the size is M14x2.0x120.

TIP:  Be sure the leaf center bolt is tight (mine were not) because once the springs are installed, you can't tighten it up w/o removing the u-bolts to get to the bolt head. It will just spin........

be prepared that the bolts like to seize up in the bushings if you live in a rust-prone area.  if they don't come out easy, I suggest just cutting them off and buying new rather than struggling too much with 'em.

Unfortunately there are no Junkyards near me to snag them. I'll just pick them up new somewhwere.

The bolts are kind of unique as they have a flange head, a 9.8 hardness factor,  and a "no threads" shoulder that rides inside the spring bushing sleeves. I doubt you will find these in a hardware store.

Mine took a bit longer than that. I ordered them back in 06, and they arrived promptly, maybe three days or so. But, he sent one regulation NOS factory spring, and one reproduction. Of course the NOS MT spring was his "Model" and had to go back and another reproduction shipped. I compared them real well first and was happy to see everything was the same as the Mopar original; free arch, end cuts of the individual leafs, bushings, etc., a perfect reproduction.

Would either of you mind saying how much they end up costing you door to door with shipping for the set?

You could PM it to me if you'd rather not post it.

Thanks :)

I would REALLY like to be able to pick up a ton of wood pellets in the back of my MJ :)

(I already have an MJ D44 patiently waiting for me to install it)
