Winter beast to DD

Recommended Posts

I live in the Buffalo/Rochester area of NY. We had a crazy snow storm few weeks ago. Drive ways looked like this!

So I went out and grabbed a sweet no rust (except for dents in the bed) Comanche 4x4 ax15 4.0 from Virginia with 90k on the clock.

I won't be kept from the ski slopes or groceries in this baby lol

I plan to get some fixes into her to make her a dependable dd

Great find!  I was wondering what all that white stuff is, then I remembered why I moved to Florida.  Hope you don't get too many of those.  Enjoy the truck and hope you have a forgiving/understanding better half, you will spend a lot of time on the mj.

Buck.

So it is pretty much rust free and the paint clearcoat is very bad in a number of spots such as the roof and hood. I would. consider a full nice paint job in the future but for now I like the black and want a cheap fix.

I don't want to go macco with the paint job. But I won't be shelling out 1500+ to fix a few spots.

My options are sand prime and rattle can paint and clear the hood (main starting point). Or find a good condition black hood and swap it in.

Here is the hood as it stands. 69fabcbc8e95077e9a83088ead4988ca.jpg

And here is a brand new replace meant hood that is slightly glossy but appears to be a primer paint that I can get locally for $90.

Or I could find a junkyard one...

All options seem semi cheap and easy I just feel weird about replacing the hood when it isn't truly shot yet.

I don't need showroom looks just a little nicer then the cheapest look.

Any advice?

I'd rattle can what you already have especially if it's just a "for now" type of fix. If you get a new hood, it'll probably fit like garbage and then you'd have to readjust everything to get it to close/open correctly. Neat little truck you got there!

This is funny, I'm in MA and irionically drove all the way to buffalo to pick up an 87 4.0/ba10/longbed a few weeks before that storm.

even more interesting is it now also has an ax15 and a new hood!!  (old one was a bit crumpled in one corner.

Picked up a few "new to me" parts from the local scrap yard.

Two power heated mirrors from 2000 xj and a gauge cluster from a 1988 xj. It is hopefully swappable in to give me the missing tach due to pioneers having the wiring and option even if the gauge cluster doesn't have it. (Correct me if my info is bad)

Well the truck got me through the winter storms. I loved getting through anything lol.

Now that its warm I am considering a paint job for the mj

I really like the blue on this xj. Not sure if it's royal blue and if that's a factory color.

Has anyone painted their mj the darker metallic blue in this photo? I love the color but I am not exactly sold for it on the truck body. I have seen some lighter metallic blue mjs and it isn't what I want.

I know this was from 1 year ago, but I got my truck painted at Macco. It was there medium line Job and so far the paint has held up great and looks good. It costed me 1100$
