So I'm in the middle of swapping out the BA 10/5 for an AX-15 and came across a slight issue.....i went to but the new bushing in ( Dorman part# 690-042) and...it doesnt fit. So before i send it down to the machine shop at school to get cut down is there something I'm missing??

What year was the jeep the AX15 came out of?

The trans input shaft diameter changed post 96 (?).  There are write up on here about using the PB for a 74 CJ5, 304 cu in.

It came out of a 96 or 97 and the input diameter changed whenever it switched to an external slave I think. And the dorman part is for a v8 cj so that's why I'm confused as to why it doesn't fit

can you slide it on and off the input tip?  Did you keep the old bushing to compare to the new?  Did you remove the wick from the engine?  Just tossing out ideas.

I would recommend getting a caliper that can measure inside and outside diameters.  It is very handy.

Yes i know that it is, problem is that right now it is in my toolbox in a locked building. Yes the inner diameter fits the input shaft of the AX-15 and yes i have the outer part of the old pilot bearing that went with the BA 10-5 i just wanted to see if there was some trick to getting it in before i bring it down to the machine shop and have it turned down to match the old one. What do you mean the wick??

Thanks for the reply

If the ID is correct and the OD is correct, then I think you just need a hammer and big socket to drive it in.

The wick is a piece of cloth (or similar material) that is pushed in behind the PB.  It may not be in yours.  It is soaked in oil and keeps the PB lubricated.

The year change is 1992. 92-06 Have the larger pilot shaft.

87-91 have the smaller pilot shaft.

1994 was first year of external slave in the XJ and YJ.

I used a pilot bearing from a TJ when I swapped in my AX, everything fit perfectly.  Try getting a different bushing before machining down the one you have.

Unfortunately i don't have the time to wait to get another one, i can't have it sitting in the way taking up lab space at school for another few days. how did you get a tj bushing to fit Blue XJ? Arent the sizes different for the renix to the newer 4.0?

I am only aware of the ID changing from ~.5" to ~.75"

You may have the wrong PB.  Go to your local auto parts store and get one there.  Take with you both the original and the replacement one.

Good luck.  Without being there to look at it, I cannot think of anything else.

Thanks. I just looked into it some more the dorman part number is close to the pioneer part, but neither will match up. I went and measured the 2 and the OD of the bearing that came out of the mj was 1.005"

I had this same problem a month ago. If you search you'll find my thread with lots of info.

But I ended up calling advance adapters and ordered the correct one.

Just had the same problem. The parts stores will give you a second option for a bearing with a collar around it. I needed that to hold the new bearing in the end of the crank. I got mine at O'Reilly PN FC-69907

Well I figure there's a machine shop on campus so I might as well take advantage of it and have a professor turn it and take off the few thousands that's needed. And while I wait on that I'm getting everything else done

I'm not sure, it was from a TJ though, actually a bearing too, had needle bearings in it, not just a bronze bushing. My crank had two diameter pilots on the rear, I used the bearing that fit in the larger outer one.

You know what, disregard my post, I have a stroker, I'm running a 258 crank.

Had it machined down to just over an inch and it fits perfect didn't take to much to press it in. So now I just have to finish up with the swap
