A-man930
Since I'll be re-locating perches for the SOA anyways, I've been looking into pointing the pinion up at the transfer case and having a CV driveshaft made. I know MJs don't need to do this in the name of drivetrain, I just want to get that big ol' diferential a little more out of the way. It shouldn't be a very steep "tilt" upwards, but I don't really want to find out that the pinion bearings are starving when I'm crusing down the highway... Thoughts? Rockfrog
I have about 5.5 - 6" lift on my XJ rear, 8.25. SYE so the pinion is pointed at the case output. No issues here for the last year and some since my regular, and none the year before. I also have a ruffstuff cover so have the ability to run more oil if I wanted. An MJ would need far less angle than my XJ so I wouldn't worry about it. The ring gear gets a good splash going on inside underway. Besides just imagine the pinion angles the YJ/TJ guys need to run. Blue XJ
With 6" springs on a LWB with a SYE, my rear pinion is set at 8 degrees up. Not much at all.
mvusse
I lowered the back of my truck a little, now around 7" of lift, SOA, Sterling 10.25", but axle should not matter too much. Pointing straight at the transfer case would have been 17 degrees. I took 2 degrees off to account for axle wrap and set the pinion at 15. A friend of mine has an XJ with 6.5" lift and a CV shaft. He ran it while siting on jack stands with the pinion seal removed and it pumped oil out the pinion quite well. I wouldn't worry about any problems with whatever pinion angle you'd need to run on am MJ.
A-man930
What about a "broken back" setup? Tempting... http://www.billavista.com/Tech/Articles/Driveshaft_Bible/index.html
