dasbulliwagen
I have seen online before about people doing whole cars in several layers of rustoleum with wet sanding between coats and then buffing the top coat. I'm thinking of doing it myself. The key seems to be in preparation. I do like the rustoleum products. They seem to be more durable than others in my limited experience. MuddFoot
thats what I'm painting my jeep with i already did some test sprays on some fenders i had laying around. i didn't use mineral spriets i used xylol it sprays better and drys better i did 2 coats on my test with gray primer and was happy with the results. i spent twice as much to paint my rock crawler and wasnt as happy. paint lays down better than my ppg i was using. i will also be putting on a clear coat and maybe some metal flake
mnkyboy
Try mixing in some synthetic hardener when you spray Rustoleum, it comes out way better. Colors better and more durable.
MuddFoot
ok whats it do to it?
mnkyboy
It brightens the color a bit adds some shine and makes the finish more durable. Makes it look like a more expensive automotive enamel.
mnkyboy
Here is a decent and inexpensive one that I've had good luck with, most paint shops carry it. http://www.advantagerefinishproducts.com/hardeners/203-synthetic-enamel-hi-gloss-hardener
Jeep Driver
Here is a decent and inexpensive one that I've had good luck with, most paint shops carry it. http://www.advantagerefinishproducts.com/hardeners/203-synthetic-enamel-hi-gloss-hardener I have no idea who's using what here........confused........? But it sounds line OP and one other is using an alkyd product......rustolium......oil based paint or primer. What you linked to is a hardener for synthetic enamels........acrylics......automotive grade. Tractor Supply sells a good hardener, 8oz (iirc) that makes up two quarts. I have used it when I repaint my trailer and it works very well, gets me two year finish verses a 1 year finish using Rustolium. I would not use anything other than a automotive grade finish or primer.....acrylic or urethane......but thats me. Yes, there are other 'hot solvent' based products for industrial use, such as xylene based primers and finishes.....but what is the point? when you can go to your local automotive store and get automotive grade products? Rustolium is made for wrought iron gates and utility trailers...........not TRUCKS! Prep....prep......prep......... I refuse to use rust converters or rust-over primers........don't be so lazy that you do not clean to bare metal or replace.
mnkyboy
I linked 203 hardener which is for synthetic or alkyd,200 hardener is for acrylics. Ive used both hardeners in Rustoleum and both have worked though.
