PEEJ
Are the rotors and calipers the same on a 2wd. straight axle and a dana 30? Thanks
Strokermjcomanche
What year? The earlier trucks up through around 89 had a solid rotor with conical bearings inside and for sure will be different . The later trucks had a unit bearing and depending what year Dana 30 ( you didn't specify ) may be the same.

AeroNautical
Yessir, but years do make a difference I believe. I don't think an 88 caliper will fit on a 99 Dana 30.
thejim42
I don't think the rotors are the same. Aren't the studs on a 2wd on the rotor while on a 4x4 they are on the hub. I know that's how it is on most other trucks. Haven't done the brakes on my 2wd yet

I don't recall specifics but some years the 2WD used a "conventional" front wheel bearing setup with the studs in the rotor. Other years the 2WD used the same hub/bearing units as the 4WD, and the studs are in the hub.
HOrnbrod
In mid-1993 the rotors became the same for both 2WD and 4WD (same hub/bearing units were incorporated).

Rockfrog
Yep, my 88 2wd uses a hub/rotor similar to most cars (hub is the rotor, inner and outer bearings no with an inner seal) And needs periodic cleaning/repacking. I have a 2000 2wd front axle that uses all the same parts as my XJ but just has a dummy shaft in the unit bearing.
FrankTheDog
The switch was actually made February 9th of 1992 from one piece rotor and hub to 4wd type wheel bearings with separate rotor. I have a 92 XJ made in December of 91 with the 2wd type bearings and a 92 MJ made in February of 92 that had the 4wd type wheel bearings. The date comes from Rock Auto's website. The factory parts manual shows them first appearing on the 93 XJ models. Is your 92 MJ 2WD?
FrankTheDog
It was. It has a 97 XJ D30 in it now. I have 2 92's built after that date and they both were 2wd with 4wd bearings. My 92 service manuals say nothing about them.
