89MJComanche
I am sitting here tonight frustrated as hell over several things. In the past three days I have purchased three new Notbook Computers at Retail because I need a replacement for mine as it has crapped out and I can't get it fixed by tomorrow morning. Needless to say Windows Vista on all of them has locked up, one even switching to blue screen of death on the second startup. I got into this major fight today with my girl friend over the whole reason that I am out purchasing another computer anyhow. Her father owns a business and had a fleet of Dell Latitudes that were about 2 years old that I totaly re-setup about 9 months ago, and he took hers off of here to give to her dead beat brother to jack off to in his college dorm room via wireless. So our spare that was setup perfect was taken from us. So here I sit tonight, this being the pinnical of similar small frustrations. Five years ago I was kinda at this point and I walked away from everything that I had. Quit a great paying Job, Sold 2 of my 3 driveable Jeeps, (Kept the XJ any my old MJ was not on the road at the time) and went backpacking for six months where I only spend about $1500 total. I'm kinda thinking about doing that same thing again. I thought about putting my house up for sale, getting rid of everything except for the RUBICON, the 96XJ, and the 50,000 mile MJ PU, and starting all over again after taking an extended vacation to travel out west to places where I have never been before. Doing this when you are 25 was probably not that big a deal because I did not have very many responsibilities, but now at 30 I suppose that I have more, but not really, I don't have kids, and frankly, my live in girl friend that I do love is not really making deep down in my heart and mind happy when I lay my head on the pillow at night. I probably have $50,000 in equity in my house, and a quick calculation of liquidation of everything else from tools, to electronics, to furniture, to vehicles and vehicle parts should net me close to another $50,000. Anyone done this?? Just cashed out, kept the 1 or 2 or 3 things that really meant something and were not replaceable really, and started all over again?? I'm thinking about it. Twisty
Well selling everything just because of a few dead computers is (pardon my French) retarded. I've used abspc.com twice now and they are awesome people with awesome prices. OR just keep your laptop, and download XJ via a torrent site, and load that onto the computer and call it done. My XP machine is quite reliable. Just my two cents ;)
89MJComanche
It is just the idea that I find my self in this situation where on a daily basis I find my self in situations where I don't want to be because of many of the things that have happend over the past few years and over decisions that I have made. I'm not even going to say that it is because of bad decisions. I purchased a $69,000 house in Oct of 05 that I have totally remodeled and made worth probably $140,000. That caused me to purchase thousands and thousands of dollard worth of tools like table saws, and chop saws, and air compressors, and nail guns, and other hand tools, a floor nailer, and I totally outfitted my garage with jacks, engine stands, hoist, and all this other hunky dory crap that part of me feels like I don't want the responsibility of owning any more. I just don't want to deal with stuff like expensive pattio furniture and TV's in every room in the house and alot of other stuff. I'm perfectly fine with 1 small TV, an old wooden picnic table salvaged from some one elses trash with a few replacement boards on it, and a backpacking air mattress to sleep on every night instead of some Posturepedic Bed that had to be made every morning. I guess I am just going through this phase right now where I feel the need to go be one with the earth again. I need to take another trip like my AT HIKE back in 2003, but this time I want to do it with the RUBICON, a small utility trailer (possibly a TENTRAX, or home brew) and just live off of what I can carry on my back or in my Jeep for a while. Life is so much more simple and wholesome that way. There is not alot of wasted energy on things like light bulbs, and house fans, and loads and loads of laundry, and cleaning solutions, and all the other crap that we consume. I am just not totally happy with everything and I want to make a change. Nothing wrong with that right??
JeepcoMJ
nothing wrong with that, but you have worked hard to build up to where you are...mess around now and there goes retirement. man, if the gf isn't the one, and doesn't give you the "butterflies", figure that out. if all the stuff is a problem, get rid of it. by all means sell the house, but get an apartment, invest the money, and rent or buy a nice little shop on an acre or two that you can put all your tools and jeep stuff in. having a place to work on your stuff is great, and keeping things simple is great. and investing now will mean more toys later, more chances to go backpacking and whatever you want. DirtyComanche
Put the jeeps in storage and pre-pay for a while. Sell everything else and tell the gf you lost it all by gambling on the internet. If she's a keeper she'll stick around. Er...
Wildman
Man....all I can say is your alittle too young to be having a "Mid-life Crisis" I didn't have mine until I was 42 ;) Yea....I know how the pressures and stress of things build up. I would suggest that you just take some time off. Go on your hiking trip, go to the beach, go see the ocean, just go some where by your self, take a week or two, sort things out, then come back and decide which is better. Don't make any irrational dicisions and start liquidating all of your assets right now, besides, you'll only get 20 cents on the dollar for what you got, and latter you'll be kicking your self on all of the stuff you had, that is not there anymore. Go to your boss, tell him you need some time off to sort some things out. If he is understanding, then your good paying job will be there when your ready to get back to things. Same goes for your sigificant other, if she is carring, she will be there when you get back. Just take some chill time out.......and you'll see how things look from out side the box, that will tell you which way to go down the road. As it was suggested to me at the time, go see a conselor, you'll be suprised how a third party can help you thru this. Make some time for your self, learn how to relax, and gain some patiences, and things will turn around for you ;)

Pete M
I agree that an extended vacation is what you need. Take a breather to relax and collect yourself. But be careful, you don't want to keep running from life every time it starts to seem hectic. You need to find something that puts you at peace without having to start fresh over and over again. My muse is nature. As far from civilization as my feet or tires can take me. I got that bug from my dad. On family trips he always sought out the less beaten path. We always hiked the longer trails (the majority of tourists are lazy and stay near the roads), stayed at the smaller campsites (to stay away from RV A/C units and generators), and tried to avoid the crowds when at all possible. If you need any help with destination suggestions, I have some favorites I'd be willing to share. And I try my darnedest to bring a small piece of nature home with me. From the landscaping around the house to the natural setting I put in my fish tank. I love the small reminders that bring forth not just memories, but a serene feeling. My happy place if you will. :D A couple years ago I took 3 weeks or so to head out to Moab and I visited with several MJ owners along the way. Just me, my dog, my MJ and the open road. I met lots of friends along the way and my best bud even flew out to Colorado for a few days of hiking in the state parks. I'd love to do that again. :D
feerocknok
Sometimes life takes reflection from the outside. You can't always see what's going on when you're stuck in it. Take a break and reflect, but keep your future in mind when you think about getting rid of all the things around you. Somethings you'll miss. kazzx
There is nothing holding you back...go. But don't be so hasty in just dropping everything. Take a couple weeks and just go, see how you feel then. Once you have some alone time where you can clear your head, then make the decision. I would if i could. Just a map and my Jeep.
