Thunderbear Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 A 1986 Comanche, of course! Susan Butcher won that year...
Comanche County Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I was a kid in Alaska and watched her go by on the trail for that race. My parents have some good pictures in the old photo album. IIRC, Scotty from Star Trek was the Grand Marshall for the parade in Anchorage.
dasbulliwagen Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Someone should see if she can be contacted and asked about the truck and her experiences with it.
Comanche County Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 She passed in 06'. Cancer... Search her name in wiki. She's survived by two daughters and her husband. Would be nice if the jeep was still around and could be restored. I'd sure volunteer to do it.
Thunderbear Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 I'd have to research, but the way the Iditarod grand prize currently works is new truck, or cash value of new truck applied to other vehicles in the Chrysler lineup. So there's a chance she didn't keep the Comanche. There are a fair amount of them up here, which is interesting. The most interesting one I see every couple of weeks is a 2.8 MJ 2WD with a snorkel. Talk about optimistic...
91Pioneer Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 The truck was a sweepstake prize, so that means mainly people not in the race are likely who bought tickets and had a chance to own that Comanche.
