Best and cheap should not be used together. When it comes to lubrication, always get the best. For the AX5, SAE-75W-90API GL-5

Absolutely do not run a GL5 gear oil in the AX5/15 that is not 'safe for yellow metal'.

I personally run 10-30 synthetic in my AX5 since GL3/4 oil is not available locally. It shifts like butter at 110 degrees and at -15 degrees. Redline MT90 would be my go to gear oil if I could remember to order it.

I stand corrected. Mark it up to a brain fart due to too much sun today.

In general, the synthetics like Royal Purple are safe for the synchronizers. The Pennzoil Syncromesh was formulated specifically for transmissions, so it's also a pretty safe bet.
