Fernando87mj
It's was a really hot day here In Vegas today ,and I noticed that I could hear my fuel pump run from inside the cab once the truck was running after a while , but the noise isnt as loud when cold. my question is , is it Normal or should I be worried ? Also it's a 1987 4.0 5speed and the engine was running at 200~210*

ftpiercecracker1
Do you still have the ballast resistor in place?
Strokermjcomanche
87 didn't have the resistor . It started in 88 . There noisy, but how noisy ? I've heard mine for as long as it's been in the truck (5 years ?) but it functions well
Bobolink
I can hear mine in my '90, and I'm damned near deaf. But I only hear it sitting still at idle, just a soft hum-m-m.....any movement and road noise drowns it out. I can also hear it from outside the truck when I walk past the gas tank on my way to close my gate. Been like that as long as I can remember, and never missed a beat during that time.

JeepcoMJ
All 5 of the 87s I have owned have had c101 and resistors.
Strokermjcomanche
The 87s I owned didn't . As cruiser posted it could be retrofitted with one if some one complained about the pump being loud.
JeepcoMJ
As that is the case, it would be advisable to amend the statement that all 87s "shouldn't" have one. Blanket statements can be confusing to a novice.
Strokermjcomanche
You're implying they all have them ?
JeepcoMJ
That you can't expect them to have them or not. It seems to be a variable thing.
