Foot Well Dimensions For Re Carpeting

Recommended Posts

I've finally got my MJ road worthy after having sat in my grandfathers yard for nearly a decade. There is currently no footwell liner(is that the term?), only raw metal (thankfully rust free). I would like to add a carpeted footwell liner over some kind of weather stripping (probably the cheap peal n seal). Does anyone know if there exists any cutting dimensions for the bed liner that I can use as a pattern to pre-cut some carpeting?

So you're planning on putting down a moisture trap in your bed? Not sure I understand what your plan of action is...

You could always take a large sheet of cardboard (or tape a million cereal boxes together) to make your own template. At any rate, no one can tell you exactly what your bed dimensions will be without knowing whether it's a long bed or a short bed.

A psychic could.

I'm sorry. I'm an idiot. Well, not really an idiot, just confused and got my terminology mixed up. Thank you for the funny responses though. I was thinking that if what is above your head is called the headliner, then below your feet should be the bedliner... not very logical now that I have spelled it out. So, please disregard all references to the bed. I want to put carpet in the floorboard of the cab which is currently now only bare metal and so I am searching for a pattern to use to  to precut the holes for the gear shift and seat frames, etc.

Although, now that I think about it, a carpeted bed would be pretty cozy. Maybe with some high pile shag?

There's a website someone on here posted not too long ago that sold the carpet precut and molded, I think.

Yes, here it is. Stockinteriors.com if that's helpful to you at all.

Don't worry, we all have our off days. ;)

Also, if you click "edit" and then "use full editor" for your first post you can change the title of the topic.

I order the carpet.  The color is perfect.  I got the thick rubber backing.

HOWEVER, you will need to cut to fit to size and for the opennings for the shifters and seat bolts.

I stand by my bedliner suggestion. Unless you've plugged ALL of the leaks in your 'manche, new carpet without rustproofing is asking for more body rot.

I was planning to use the weather stripping peal n seal material before I laid the carpet. As it stands, there is no rust in the tub. I do like the idea of using a bedliner for ease of cleaning, but I would like the sound dampening properties of the carpet+mass backing.

Just did this to my manche about a month back. Bedliner then frost king then carpet. Must bedliner to avoid future rust. The frost king foam and foil adhesive worked great use two layers on floor as it will compress. Ordered my carpet from stock interiors it fit great just a tip if your old carpet is available use it as a template, because there is a lot of excess on edges. If the old carpet is not available no worries lay it in your studs on the floor for seat will be obvious also your console holes.

Thanks. If I do the frost king, should I still get the extra mass backing? I've never heard of frost king so I'll read up in it. Thanks again

I did 2 layers of frost king and mass backing you can never have enough sound deadening, our Jeeps are loud. Not to mention the mass backing also makes the carpet a heck of a lot more durable. This is just my personal opinion no actual facts, but it's pretty obvious when compared side by side. Now for the frost king it's a foam and foil self adhesive closed cell foam. It's normally used as metal duct wrap in hvac industry, also an assortment of other things. The product works great as sound deadning and insulating ,sticks great to floor(2 layers on floor it compresses), roof, firewall, doors, and other parts of cabin.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks for all the advice. We finally got around to installing the carpeting this weekend. With the mass backing it's like trying to wrestle an octopus back into its hole. The rust was scraped off floor first, then applied a paint that bonded to the rusted spots.

For others planning to use the carpet from stock interiors; I cut 2.5" off the top (what goes in behind the pedals) and that would put the heel pad and molded sections in their correct spots. It was difficult getting the shift and Tcase lever lined up but it all worked out and the mini-console covers all the hacking nicely.
