i bought a rocknob grenade shift knob back when i had a non running cj-5 and I'm wondering if the knob will fit an auto trans column shift

doubt the threads are the same, but it might be possible with some epoxy.

glue is good thing

If the hole is close to the same size, glue will work at least temporarily. The knob on my column shifter is worn out so every few months I have to glue it back on. Works well enough.

Heavy shift knobs put strain on your shift forks and accelerates wear on them and your syncros.

So does riding around with your hand on the shifter.

Go with a lighter knob.

 

Just saw you want to put it on an auto.

Bad idea for the same reason, it'll wear out your column linkage.

To much weight.

It's a column shift automatic. I doubt it would hurt much unless it's REALLY heavy.

It's a cast iron grenade. It's plenty heavy.

The column shift lever is splined, not threaded. Gluing/epoxing a heavy cast iron fake grenade to the lever is not a good idea (forcing myself not to say stupid idea). It'll work for awhile, then over time the combination of vibes and knob weight you will create an auto shifter, possibly not shifting when you want it to. Forget about it..........

Cast iron grenade - that's an important detail. Don't do it. The stock knob is a couple of ounces at most.

I'm seeing that now 

its going on to my 4x4 shift lever

That will cause it to shift out of 4x4 when you hit pot holes.
